For four days at the beginning of February, ZENIT GmbH was host to a government delegation from Egypt. High-ranking personalities from the Egyptian Ministry of Industry and Trade, as well as from two technology centres, learned from the experts in the NRW.Europa team about the management, organisational form and activities of the consortium. The visit took place in the framework of Medibtikar, a project in the EuroMed innovation and technology programme. This programme was initiated by the European Commission and is supervised by the delegation of the European Commission in Cairo. Egypt is the first MEDA partner (countries bordering the southern Mediterranean) of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN Egypt).

The delegation of EEN Egypt, led by Secretary of State Dr. Hany Barakat, a doctor of engineering who graduated from RWTH Aachen University, was highly content with the visit and emphasised that the results far exceeded its expectations. This was reflected above all in two co-operation agreements concluded with an NRW enterprise from the environmental sector.

There is considerable interest in a bilateral partnership between NRW and Egypt under the umbrella of the Enterprise Europe Network. Amongst others, the parties agreed on several reciprocal visits and the welcoming to Cairo in June of a delegation of entrepreneurs from NRW's construction sector.

The ten sector-based technology and competence centres involved in EEN Egypt have considerable technology requirements in the areas of efficiency-raising in production, wastewater treatment and renewable energies.
